Ex-Mutants is one of those weird, forgotten Genesis games that somehow nails the post-apocalyptic vibe better than most. You play as this hulking bio-engineered soldier—half man, half tank—wading through ruined cities and mutant-infested wastelands. The controls are surprisingly tight for a game this old, letting you pull off satisfying jump-kicks and brutal melee combos against enemies that look like they were designed by a metalhead with a thing for body horror.
It’s tough as nails, though. One wrong jump or mistimed attack, and you’ll be staring at the "Game Over" screen faster than you can say "mutant uprising." But that’s part of the charm—every level feels like a desperate scramble through some dystopian nightmare, complete with flickering neon signs and enemies that explode into pixelated gore. The soundtrack’s all industrial synths and grinding bass, which just adds to the whole "this world is screwed" atmosphere.
Not gonna lie, it’s rough around the edges, but if you’re into obscure, punishing action games from the Genesis era, this one’s a blast. Just don’t expect it to go easy on you.
