Play Ex-Ranza (Japan) Online
Your ship starts small but quickly turns into a bullet-spewing beast—dodging neon hellfire while swapping weapons on the fly, each shot packing a satisfying crunch. It’s that rare shooter where chaos feels controlled, like you’re barely surviving but always in charge.

Game Overview
Ex-Ranza is one of those Genesis shooters that somehow slipped through the cracks—which is a shame, because it's got this perfect mix of chaos and precision. You start off with a basic ship, but within minutes you're juggling power-ups, dodging bullet sprays, and weaving through enemy formations that somehow feel fair even when they're overwhelming.
The visuals pop with that classic 16-bit brightness—lots of neon explosions and chunky sprite work—but what really sticks with me is how weighty your shots feel. There's a real punch to the weapons, especially when you snag the spread shot or homing missiles. And yeah, it's tough, but in that satisfying "one more try" way where you can usually spot exactly where you messed up.
If you've played MUSHA or Thunder Force, you'll recognize that same tight, arcade-y energy here, but Ex-Ranza has its own weird little personality. Some of the enemy designs are just delightfully bizarre. It's the kind of game that makes you wish you'd rented it back in '94 instead of whatever mediocre platformer was hogging the shelf space.
