Play Exed Exes (Japan) Online
Dodge swarms of bug-shaped ships while scrolling upward—one wrong move and you're crushed or blasted by their wild bullet patterns. That Capcom soundtrack somehow makes the chaos feel fun.

Exed Exes came out for the NES in 1985, published by Capcom. It was part of that early wave of shooters on the system, a time when vertical scrolling and enemy swarms were still fresh challenges. The game didn't try to reinvent the wheel; it just gave you a ship and a lot of things to shoot.
You pilot a small fighter through a series of vertically scrolling stages, blasting insect-like enemies that pour down from the top of the screen. Your main goal is survival, clearing each area by destroying the larger mothership that appears partway through the stage. Two mechanics stand out: you can collect power-ups that add wing cannons to your ship, widening your shot spread, and you must also manage a limited supply of smart bombs to clear the screen when things get too crowded. The pacing is relentless, with enemies swarming in from all sides almost immediately, and the difficulty ramps up quickly. It feels like a constant scramble to find breathing room between the bullets.
