Game Overview

Oh man, Hikari Shinwa: Palthena no Kagami—that mouthful of a title hides one of the GBA's coolest little secrets. It's a remake of some obscure Famicom game most of us never got to play, and Nintendo somehow made it feel right at home on the tiny screen.

You start off with this magical mirror (because of course you do) and immediately get thrown into that classic top-down adventure vibe—think Zelda but condensed into something you could realistically finish during a lazy Sunday. The sword swings feel satisfyingly chunky, the dungeons are just puzzle-y enough without being frustrating, and there's something weirdly comforting about how straightforward it all is.

What got me was the presentation. They kept all that 8-bit charm but smoothed out the rough edges for the GBA, so it looks like your childhood memories of NES games rather than how they actually looked. And yeah, it's short—but in a "no filler, just fun" way that makes you wish more games were like this now. If you've ever wanted to time-travel back to 1987 without dealing with flickering sprites, this is your ticket.
