Game Overview

The Story of Thor – Hikari o Tsugumono came out for the Sega Genesis in 1994, developed and published by Sega. It was part of a wave of action RPGs on the system that tried to capture the feel of exploring a large world, though it never quite reached the same level of recognition as some of its contemporaries.

You control Prince Ali, a young hero who must venture through forests, caves, and temples to recover the stolen Moonlight and Sunlight Swords. The game plays out screen by screen, with you using a sword for close combat and a bow for ranged attacks against various monsters and bosses. A key feature is the ability to summon four elemental spirits; each spirit has a unique ability, like the fire spirit burning obstacles or the water spirit healing your wounds. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, especially in later areas where enemies hit hard and resources are scarce. It feels like a solid, sometimes challenging adventure where every new screen brings a small risk and a potential reward.
