I picked up FIFA 2005 for the Game Boy Advance back in 2004, a portable soccer title from EA Canada. It was one of those games you’d slide into your GBA between classes or on long trips, offering a quick, condensed version of the sport without the frills of its console counterparts. It fit right in with the era’s handheld offerings, straightforward and functional.

You control a team of players, passing and shooting your way toward the opponent’s goal. The main objective is simple: score more goals than the other side. The game relies on short through passes, sprint bursts with the shoulder button, and aiming shots with the D-pad to place the ball. Matches are fast, sometimes a little frantic, and the difficulty can spike against tougher teams. It feels responsive and satisfying when you string a play together and slot one past the keeper.
