Play Final Blow (Japan) Online
You pick a boxer, throw some jabs that magically land from across the ring, and watch those stiff little sprites wobble after a lucky uppercut. It’s janky, but weirdly satisfying when the health bar finally drops.
Final Blow came out for the Sega Genesis in 1989, developed and published by Taito. It was one of the earlier fighting games on the system, arriving before the genre really exploded in popularity. The graphics and animation were simple, even for the time, but it had a certain charm that made it stand out in a growing library of action titles.
You control a boxer and move around a single screen arena, throwing jabs and uppercuts at your opponent. The main goal is to drain their health bar before they drain yours. Punches have a strange, floaty reach; sometimes you connect from what looks like halfway across the ring. There’s a block button, but timing it feels awkward. Matches can be slow, with a lot of cautious circling, but landing a strong punch and seeing the opponent stagger is oddly rewarding. It feels stiff and a little clumsy, but there’s a simple pleasure in outlasting the other fighter.
