Play Formation Z (Japan) Online
You swap between a sluggish jet and a stompy robot while barely dodging bullets—it's janky, but kinda fascinating for an NES relic. That "P" power-up still makes no sense.

Formation Z came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, developed and published by Jaleco. It was part of that early wave of NES games where developers were still figuring out how to make compelling action games with the hardware. You control a transforming mecha, switching between a jet and a robot to fight through enemy forces.
You pilot the machine through side-scrolling stages, shooting down enemy crafts and ground targets while avoiding their fire. The main goal is simply to survive each level and defeat the boss waiting at the end. Key mechanics include switching forms mid-stage; the jet is faster but more vulnerable, while the robot is slower and fires in multiple directions. You also collect power-ups marked by letters, like P for a new weapon or B for a barrier. The pacing is relentless, and the hit detection can feel unforgiving. It feels like a rough but earnest attempt at mecha action, where every small victory comes from stubborn persistence.
