Play Friday the 13th Online
Play as camp counselors trying to survive Jason in this clunky but tense NES horror game. Switch between characters, gather weapons, and survive his cabin attacks.
Friday the 13th came out on the NES in 1989, published by LJN. It was part of that wave of movie tie-ins that tried to capture the feel of the films, even if the hardware couldn't always deliver the scares. You knew what you were getting into; it was a licensed game from that era, with all the jank and ambition that usually implied.
You control a series of camp counselors, switching between them on an overworld map to explore cabins, caves, and the forest. The main goal is to find and defeat Jason Voorhees three times before he kills all the children under your protection. Key mechanics include screen-by-screen exploration where Jason can appear suddenly, combat using found weapons like knives and torches, and managing your limited inventory of healing items. The pacing is slow and deliberate, often frustrating due to high difficulty and some confusing objectives. It feels like a tense, uneven struggle where a single mistake can ruin everything you've built.
