Control Edward Elric, battle homunculi, solve puzzles with alchemy, and switch to Alphonse for combo attacks in this side-scrolling adventure.
Full Metal Alchemist (J)(Cezar) is a Japan-only Game Boy Advance release from 2003, developed by Japanese studio Rocket Studio and published by Bandai. It arrived during the GBA's peak, a time when licensed anime games were plentiful but often inconsistent in quality. This one adapts the early arcs of the original Fullmetal Alchemist anime, sticking to the look and tone of the series without much fanfare.
You control Edward Elric, occasionally switching to Alphonse for specific actions or combo attacks. The main goal is to advance through side-scrolling stages, battling homunculi and other foes while occasionally solving environmental puzzles using alchemy. Signature mechanics include using alchemic spears for ranged attacks and performing tag-team moves with Al; the pixel art does a nice job capturing Ed's dynamic movements, like his coat flips during combat. The pacing is straightforward but the platforming can feel awkward by modern standards, with some imprecise jumps and hit detection. It feels like a solid, if unspectacular, effort to translate the show's action into a portable format.
