Game Overview

Game of Harmony came out for the Game Boy in 1990, developed by a small team called Sonic Carousel. It was one of those late-era puzzle games that tried to do something a little different with the hardware, focusing on music creation instead of just clearing blocks or matching colors. You don't see many games like it, even now.

You control a cursor to swap adjacent tiles on a grid, trying to align symbols that represent different instrument tracks. The main goal is to complete each stage by building a full musical phrase, with each successful match adding a new layer like drums, melody, or bass. The game plays out screen by screen, with the complexity ramping up as more instruments and faster tempos are introduced. It's not overly difficult, but it demands a good ear and quick planning to keep the song from falling apart. When you get into a rhythm and the layers lock in, it feels like you're conducting your own little pocket orchestra.
