Gauntlet IV came out for the Sega Genesis in 1993, developed by Tengen and published by Sega. It was part of that wave of arcade-style games that thrived on the system, offering a home version of the classic dungeon crawl with some notable additions. You choose from the warrior, valkyrie, wizard, or elf, each with their own strengths in melee or ranged combat. The main goal is to clear room after room of monsters while hunting for keys and the exit, all while your health constantly ticks down. You scramble for food just to stay alive, and treasure piles up to boost your score. The pacing is relentless; enemies spawn endlessly from generators you have to find and destroy. It feels frantic and cooperative, especially with others, where you're all fighting over resources while trying not to die.
