Play Gokujou Parodius (Japan) Online
Pick a ridiculous Konami character and dodge giant sushi while opera music blares—sometimes your power-up wrecks everything, sometimes it’s just a sad little bell.

Gokujou Parodius came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed and published by Konami. It was part of a wave of games that didn't take themselves too seriously, a contrast to the more straightforward shooters and platformers of the time. The game is a parody of Konami's own Gradius series, filled with absurd characters and situations that stood out on the platform.
You control one of several oddball ships, like a transforming penguin or the Vic Viper from Gradius dressed as a baby, and fly through horizontally scrolling stages. Your main objective is to survive the chaotic stages and defeat the boss at the end of each one. You collect power-up capsules to choose new weapons and options, like lasers or trailing helper pods, but the power-ups themselves are often silly; one might turn your ship into a giant, screen-clearing train, while another just gives you a useless bell. The pacing is frantic, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly with waves of enemies and environmental hazards. It feels unpredictable and genuinely funny to play, a constant surprise from one moment to the next.
