Gold Rush! came out on the Amiga in 1988 from Sierra On-Line. It was one of those historical adventure games that tried to do something a little different, putting you right in the middle of the 1849 California Gold Rush. It fit right in with other Sierra titles of the era, offering a detailed story and a world that reacted to your choices.

You play as Jerrod Wilson, a New York printer who heads west to find his missing brother and strike it rich. The game plays out across a large map of the United States, and you must carefully manage your supplies, money, and time while choosing one of three main routes to California, each with its own dangers. Signature mechanics include making time-sensitive decisions at key junctures and dealing with random events, like broken wagon wheels or sudden illnesses, that can completely derail your journey. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty comes from balancing your resources against the unpredictable challenges of the trail.
