Grand Theft Auto Advance came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2004, developed by Digital Eclipse and published by Rockstar Games. You play as Mike, a small-time criminal caught up in a bigger mess after a botched deal. The game plays from a top-down perspective, and you move screen by screen through a scaled-down version of Liberty City. You steal cars, run missions for various gangs, and try to survive the escalating violence. The police chase you with a wanted level system, and the driving feels weighty and deliberate, not arcade-like. Missions can be brutally difficult, demanding precision and patience. It feels raw and unpolished in places, but pulling off a chaotic escape through those pixelated streets delivers a specific kind of tension.
