Game Overview

Gumby Vs. The Astrobots is a 2005 Game Boy Advance release from publisher Namco, based on the classic stop-motion character. It arrived late in the GBA's life, a time when licensed platformers were common, often aiming for younger audiences with familiar faces. The game doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, but it does try to stretch it.

You control Gumby through a series of side-scrolling stages, punching robotic enemies and stretching your limbs to swing across gaps or reach higher platforms. The main goal is to rescue your horse friend Pokey from the mechanical invaders. Signature mechanics include using Gumby's stretchy arms to grapple specific points and his ability to flatten himself to slip under low obstacles. The pacing is straightforward, though some awkward jumps and enemy placements can create friction. It feels like controlling a wobbly, determined clay hero through a slightly uncooperative world.
