Play Gumshoe (USA, Europe) Online
Guide a detective by shooting the ground to make him jump and clear obstacles while rescuing your kidnapped daughter in this light gun side-scroller from 1986.
Gumshoe came out for the NES in 1986, published by Nintendo. It was one of those early light gun games, a side-scroller where you don't control the character directly. Instead, you use the NES Zapper to interact with everything on screen, which felt pretty experimental at the time.
You guide a detective named Mr. Stevenson who runs automatically from left to right. Your job is to shoot the ground beneath him to make him jump over pits and enemies, or shoot enemies and obstacles directly to clear the path. The main goal is to rescue your kidnapped daughter by progressing through six distinct chapters, each with increasing environmental hazards and enemy types. The pacing is relentless; if you miss a shot or hesitate, he falls or gets hit, and you lose a life. It demands quick reflexes and precise aim, creating a tense, almost rhythmic flow of trigger pulls. Playing it feels like a careful dance between anticipation and reaction.
