Hard Drivin' came to the Amiga in 1989, a port of the arcade game by Atari Games. It arrived during a time when home systems were just starting to push the boundaries of 3D polygonal graphics, and this game was a clear, if demanding, attempt to bring that arcade spectacle home.
You control a sports car, aiming to complete laps on either a high-speed track or a stunt course filled with loops and steep jumps. The main challenge is simply to finish without crashing, racing against a strict timer. The signature mechanics are the fully 3D, wireframe driving model and the physics based crashes; hitting a wall or another car triggers a detailed, slow motion replay of the destruction. The game is notoriously difficult due to its unforgiving handling and the sheer speed of the courses. It feels like wrestling with the steering wheel, a constant fight for control on the edge of disaster.
