Play Hercules Online
You slash through Greek monsters with chunky sword swings, dodge lava pits in the underworld, and somehow that Hydra fight feels epic on a tiny screen. Classic Game Boy jank and all.

Hercules came out on the Game Boy in 1997, developed by Eurocom and published by THQ. It was part of that wave of licensed games from the mid to late 90s, where you'd often find a movie adaptation on the shelf next to more original titles. This one was a side-scrolling action platformer, a familiar genre for the system, and it tried to capture the animated film's story in a playable form.
You control Hercules, moving him through levels that mirror the movie's locations, from Thebes to the underworld. Your main goal is to prove yourself a true hero by defeating mythical beasts like centaurs and cyclopes, and eventually confronting Hades. The gameplay involves straightforward sword combat; you swing your blade at enemies and can also pick up and throw items like urns. You explore screen by screen, navigating environmental hazards like bottomless pits and lava flows. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can be unforgiving with some cheap enemy placements. It feels like a solid, if unspectacular, effort to translate a big adventure onto the small screen.
