Hit the Ice came out on the Game Boy in 1992, published by Taito. It was part of that wave of arcade-style sports games that tried to capture the fast, simple fun of the coin-op cabinets on a handheld. You didn't get deep season modes or realistic physics on the Game Boy; you got quick, exaggerated action, and this game fit right into that.
You control a five man hockey team, skating up and down a single screen rink. The main goal is just to outscore the other team within a time limit. Your players automatically chase the puck, so you focus on positioning, passing, and firing slap shots. You can body check opponents into the boards to temporarily stun them, clearing a path to the net. The game moves at a frantic pace, with the puck constantly pinballing between players. It feels like pure, chaotic fun, a game of constant motion where a lucky bounce can decide everything.
