Play Hit the Ice (USA, Europe) Online
Top-down hockey chaos where you shove players into the boards just to hear that crunch, then chase the puck as it pinballs around like it’s possessed. Canada’s team always wins—unless the goalie suddenly forgets how to block.

Hit the Ice for the Game Boy came out in 1993, published by Taito. It was one of the few hockey games on the handheld, offering a fast, arcade style alternative to the more methodical sports titles of the era. You got a condensed version of the sport, built for quick sessions between classes or on the bus.
You control a team of hockey players, switching between them to chase the puck, body check opponents, and take shots on goal. The main objective is to outscore the other team within the time limit. Signature mechanics include a simple one button pass and shoot system, aggressive checking that sends players sliding into the boards, and a goalie who can be surprisingly vulnerable up close. The pacing is frantic; the puck moves quickly and bounces unpredictably, leading to chaotic scrambles in front of the net. It feels like pure, uncomplicated hockey mayhem squeezed into a tiny screen.
