Hugo: The Evil Mirror came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, published by ITE Media. It was part of that wave of European-developed platformers that tried to stand out with a darker, more puzzle-oriented style. You control Hugo, a troll who must retrieve the shattered pieces of an evil mirror to save his family. The gameplay involves navigating side-scrolling levels, avoiding enemies like bats and spiders, and jumping across precarious platforms. You collect keys to unlock doors and gather coins to buy extra lives or continues. The pace is deliberate, with an emphasis on careful timing rather than speed, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, especially with some of the longer jumps and instant-death pits. It feels tense and a little clunky, but satisfying when you finally clear a tricky section.
