I picked up Ice Age 2: The Meltdown for the Game Boy Advance back in 2006, a time when licensed platformers were a dime a dozen on the handheld. It was developed by Eurocom and published by Vivendi Games, fitting right into that era of straightforward, often surprisingly competent, movie tie-ins. You knew what you were getting; it wasn't trying to reinvent the wheel, just offer a solid few hours with characters you recognized.

You control the main trio from the film, switching between Manny, Sid, and Diego to use their unique abilities. Manny smashes through ice barriers and heavy objects, Diego makes precise, long jumps across gaps, and Sid uses his lanky body to shimmy up narrow vertical passages. The main goal is to guide the herd to safety, navigating a series of side-scrolling levels filled with platforming challenges, enemy creatures like those pesky mini sloths, and environmental puzzles that require swapping characters on the fly. The pacing is brisk, with occasional frantic mini-game stages where you control Scrat, desperately chasing his acorn in a mad, obstacle-filled dash. It's not a particularly difficult game, but it demands a little attention, especially during the character-specific sections. Playing it feels like a comfortable, familiar puzzle, figuring out which hero to use and when to keep moving forward.
