Infiltrator came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, developed by HAL Laboratory. It was part of that early wave of NES games that tried to blend different genres, in this case mixing top-down strategy with action sequences. You don't see many games from that period attempting this kind of hybrid approach, which always made it stand out to me, even if it wasn't a huge hit at the time.

You control a lone special forces soldier sent behind enemy lines to destroy key installations. The game is split between an overhead map where you plot your movement between bases, and side-view action stages where you actually carry out the mission. In these sections, you have to avoid searchlights, take out guards with your limited ammo, and plant explosives before calling for helicopter extraction. The pacing is tense because getting spotted triggers alarms and reinforcements, making every screen a careful calculation of risk. It feels like a tight, stressful puzzle where one mistake can unravel everything you've built.
