Game Overview
Iridion II is one of those GBA shooters that somehow looks way better than it has any right to. The first thing you notice is the insane particle effects—lasers and explosions everywhere, with this weirdly smooth pseudo-3D scrolling that makes it feel faster than it actually is. The soundtrack slaps too, all crunchy synth beats that somehow don’t get old after the third stage.
It’s not as brutally hard as some other shmups, but those mid-bosses will wreck you if you’re not paying attention. I kept getting stuck on the fourth level because I kept forgetting to switch between the three weapon types (the homing missiles are basically cheating, by the way). The whole thing’s over in like an hour if you’re good, but it’s the kind of game you replay just to see how far you can push the score multiplier.
Also, the final boss is a giant angry space flower. No notes, perfect design.
