Game Overview

Jajamaru no Daibouken is one of those weird little NES games that somehow sticks with you. You play as a frog ninja—because why not?—flinging kunai at enemies and sticking to walls like a tiny green Spider-Man. The first stage throws you right into it: hopping across lily pads, dodging snakes, and figuring out how to climb those slick vertical surfaces without sliding back down.

The controls take a second to click, but once they do, it’s oddly satisfying. You’ve got this floaty jump that feels just right for a frog, and the kunai have this nice weight to them. The music’s got that classic chiptune pep, and the colors pop in that way only 8-bit games can. It’s not the hardest platformer out there, but some of those later levels sneak in surprises—like that one boss who spits fireballs in a pattern you’ll definitely mess up the first time.

Honestly, the charm’s in the absurdity. A ninja frog rescuing his friends? Sure. It’s the kind of game you’d rent as a kid and then wonder years later if it was even real. Turns out, it is—and it’s still fun.
