Game Overview
Jim Power in Mutant Planet is one of those classic Amiga games that keeps switching things up on you. One minute you're running and gunning through side-scrolling platform levels, the next you're in a top-down shooter section dodging bullets. The transitions actually work surprisingly well—I remember being pleasantly surprised the first time my little spaceship popped up.
You start off with a basic gun, but it upgrades as you go, which helps when you're facing the weird alien monsters and screen-filling bosses. The smart bomb is a lifesaver when things get too chaotic (and they will). Some levels have you hunting for keys, others are pure survival—just don't expect the game to tell you which is which upfront.
Fair warning: the difficulty spikes hard in later stages. That forest dimensional rift? Leads to way more trouble than it first suggests. Still, there's something satisfying about finally nailing those shooter segments after a few tries.
