Game Overview

If you’ve ever tried to learn Japanese mahjong and got lost in all the rules, Jissen Mahjong Kyoshitsu is the Game Boy cart that finally made it click for me. The tutorial’s a little dry—this is a "mahjong classroom," after all—but after a few rounds, you start seeing patterns in the tiles instead of just pretty symbols. The AI isn’t messing around either; lose focus for a second, and some old man in a virtual parlor will absolutely clean you out.

It’s got that classic Game Boy vibe—no fancy animations, just the clack of tiles and the occasional pixelated grin when you pull off a sneaky win. I keep coming back because it’s one of those games that feels fair even when you’re losing. Just don’t blame me when you miss your stop because you were one tile away from a riichi.
