Game Overview

Mahjong Keiji on the GBA is one of those weird little games that makes you go, "Wait, why is mahjong suddenly a detective story?" But somehow, it works. You're solving tile puzzles to progress through cases, which sounds gimmicky until you realize how satisfying it feels when matching a pair of bamboo tiles somehow cracks open a suspect's alibi.

The pixel art has that chunky, early 2000s handheld charm—think exaggerated character sprites and goofy crime scene backdrops. And the cases? Absurd in the best way. One minute you're tracking down a stolen artifact, the next you're exposing a corrupt mayor by strategically clearing flower tiles. It shouldn't be this fun, but here we are.

If you've ever played standard mahjong solitaire, the core mechanics will feel familiar, but the detective twist gives it just enough structure to keep you hooked. I got way too invested in some of these ridiculous cases. The game knows not to take itself seriously, and neither should you. Just enjoy the ride.
