Kao the Kangaroo for the Game Boy Advance came out in 2005 from Tate Interactive. It was part of that wave of early 2000s platformers that tried to capture some of the energy of older console hits on a handheld. The GBA had a lot of these kinds of games, and this one fit right in without trying to reinvent anything.

You control Kao, a young kangaroo, moving through levels filled with platforms, enemies, and obstacles. The main goal is to rescue your captured animal friends from an evil hunter. You punch enemies with your boxing gloves, collect fruit for points, and avoid hazards like rolling coconuts or spiked pits. The levels are designed screen by screen, with some light exploration to find hidden items or alternate paths. The pacing is fairly brisk, and the difficulty is manageable, though some jumps require precise timing. It feels straightforward and energetic, like a solid afternoon time-waster.
