Play Kujaku Ou (Japan) [En by Snark v1.1] (~Peacock King) Online
You play as a psychic monk solving occult mysteries—talking to sketchy characters, making choices that change the story, and occasionally blasting demons with your mind powers. Feels like digging through an old supernatural case file with some RPG bits mixed in.

Game Overview
Kujaku Ou (or Peacock King, if you're going by the US version) is this weird little gem from the NES era that feels like a supernatural detective story mixed with light RPG bits. You're basically a monk with psychic powers running around solving occult mysteries—except instead of just fighting demons, you're also navigating these old-school menu-driven conversations and making choices that actually matter.
The Japanese version leans harder into the adventure side of things, with more dialogue and puzzle-solving, while the US release added extra action scenes to appeal to impatient kids like me back in the day. Either way, it's got this eerie charm, like someone mashed up a Buddhist ghost story with early JRPG mechanics. The pixel art for the monsters still sticks with me—especially that one boss that looks like a screaming face made of hands.
Fair warning: the translation patch helps, but some of the spiritual terminology still feels like deciphering an ancient scroll.
