Irem's Kung-Fu Master came to the Game Boy in 1990, a portable take on the arcade classic. You control a martial artist making his way to the top to rescue your girlfriend. You punch and kick through waves of enemies, each with their own attack patterns; some throw knives, others lunge at you. The screen advances only when you clear all opponents, so you have to be deliberate. It's fast, and the difficulty ramps up quickly, demanding good timing to avoid getting cornered. Landing a hit has a satisfying, chunky feel, and the constant pressure makes every victory count.
