Irem released Kung-Fu Master for the Game Boy in 1990, a portable version of their earlier arcade hit. You control a martial artist fighting his way up a tower to rescue a kidnapped girlfriend from the villainous Mr. X.
You move screen by screen, punching and kicking an endless stream of enemies who approach from both sides. The main objective is to survive each floor and defeat the boss waiting at the top of every stage. Key mechanics include jumping over bottomless pits, performing backflips to evade attacks, and memorizing enemy spawn points to avoid being overwhelmed. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is unforgiving, demanding quick reflexes and pattern recognition. It feels tense and immediate, like every mistake could be your last.
