Game Overview

Lawnmower Man for the Sega Genesis came out in 1993, developed by Sales Curve Interactive and published by THQ. It was based on the Stephen King story and the film, fitting right into that era of movie tie-ins and early attempts at virtual reality themes on the 16-bit systems. The game doesn't try to blend in; it's loud, strange, and very much a product of its time.

You control Jobe, a groundskeeper who starts by mowing lawns in a suburban neighborhood but soon gets pulled into a digital simulation. The main goal is to navigate through maze-like levels, avoid obstacles, and defeat enemies using a mix of standard movement and special abilities granted by power-ups. Signature mechanics include switching between first-person and third-person perspectives, using a limited supply of grenades and other weapons, and solving simple environmental puzzles. The pacing is uneven, with some sections feeling rushed and others frustratingly slow due to awkward controls and unpredictable enemy behavior. It feels like a chaotic, experimental trip that never quite finds its footing but leaves an impression through sheer audacity.
