Legend of Galahad came out for the Sega Genesis in 1992, developed by Core Design. You control the knight Galahad, moving him through a side-scrolling fantasy landscape. Your main goal is to rescue King Arthur's queen from an evil sorcerer, which involves fighting through castles, crypts, and forests. The core loop is methodical: you explore each screen, using your sword to parry attacks and a shield to block projectiles from enemies like knights and floating eyes. You also collect different colored orbs to power up spells, which become essential for dealing with tougher foes and bosses. The pacing is deliberate, even slow, and the difficulty is unforgiving, demanding precise timing in combat. It feels like a careful, sometimes grueling, trek through a hostile and beautifully grim world.
