Loopz on the Game Boy came out in 1990, developed by Athena Co., Ltd. It was one of those many puzzle games that filled the portable's library, a time when simple, repeatable concepts were key for on the go play. You don't control a character; you directly manipulate colored, segmented bars that fall from the top of the screen. Your objective is to rotate these pieces and place them so their ends connect, forming complete, closed loops which then vanish from the playfield. The core challenge is the limited preview of upcoming pieces and the constant, slow upward creep of the entire puzzle stack, which will eventually push a piece off the top and end your game. It creates a tense, methodical pace where you are always planning two or three moves ahead under pressure. It feels like a constant, quiet battle against a rising tide of your own mistakes.
