You control Max, driving his Interceptor through a top-down desert wasteland, shooting at enemy vehicles and ramming them off the road. The main goal is to hunt down the villainous Humungus by clearing areas of his gangs, all while desperately managing your fuel supply; running out means an immediate game over. You explore screen by screen, engaging in car combat and occasionally getting out on foot to scavenge for gasoline and ammunition in abandoned structures. The pacing is tense because every shot and every wrong turn wastes precious resources, making even small skirmishes feel consequential. It feels like a constant struggle for survival, where every can of fuel you find is a small victory.
