Play Madden '95 Online

Calling audibles on a tiny Game Boy screen while scrambling to find open receivers—good luck. Fake team names, real 1994 stats, and weirdly deep playbooks make this portable football oddly satisfying once you embrace the jank.

Game Overview

Madden '95 on Game Boy is a weird little time capsule—no NFL teams (thanks to licensing), but all the 1994 season stats and schedules are there, just with fake names. You get exhibition matches, full seasons, and playoffs, plus this oddball "Championship" mode where you can play as legendary teams like the '66 Packers or '89 49ers. There’s even a franchise mode with all-time great squads.

The playbook is surprisingly deep for a Game Boy game—80+ offensive plays, fake kicks, audibles you can customize. Controls are simple (d-pad to move, two buttons for everything else), but good luck completing a pass with that tiny screen scrolling vertically. You’ll mostly run the ball and hope for the best.

It’s janky by today’s standards, but there’s something charming about cramming full football games into 20-minute chunks on a monochrome handheld. Just don’t expect Madden 23.
