Game Overview
Madden NFL 99 on the N64 was one of those games that made you feel like you were actually calling plays from the sidelines. The graphics were a big step up from earlier versions—players actually looked like football players, not blocky polygons. I remember spending way too much time in Franchise Mode, trying to build a team that could last more than a couple seasons before my quarterback got wrecked by injuries.
The controls took some getting used to, especially if you were coming from the simpler SNES or Genesis Maddens, but once it clicked, you could pull off some surprisingly smooth moves. The commentary was repetitive (as expected), but hearing "He's got getting-away-from-the-cops speed!" never got old. If you're into classic football games, this one still holds up surprisingly well.
