MegaTraveller 1 - The Zhodani Conspiracy is one of those classic Amiga RPGs that throws you straight into deep space politics. You’re basically trying to stop a war between the Zhodani Consulate and the Imperium—turns out some officials are getting bribed to stir up trouble, and it’s your job to untangle the mess.
First thing? Character creation. You can either roll your own squad from scratch (with five military careers to pick from and a ridiculous number of skills) or grab a pre-made team if you just want to dive in. I spent way too long tweaking stats before realizing my first squad was terrible at, well, everything.
Once you’re in, there’s a whole chunk of space to explore—28 planets across 8 systems, packed with random encounters, trading (30 types of cargo to haggle over), and real-time combat where you control one character while shouting orders at the rest. It’s chaotic, but in that satisfying old-school way where half the fun is watching your terrible plans fall apart.
If you’re into dense, slightly janky ’90s RPGs with more systems than sense, this one’s a time capsule worth digging into.
