MegaTraveller 1: The Zhodani Conspiracy came out in 1990 for MS-DOS, published by Paragon Software Corporation. It was part of that wave of deep, complex space games that really asked something of the player, back when manuals were thick and tutorials were scarce. You got a universe to explore, not just a level to beat.
You control a small team of agents, customizing their skills and equipment, traveling between star systems to uncover a shadowy plot. The main goal is to gather intelligence, trade for better gear, and survive encounters with hostile forces. Signature mechanics include turn-based tactical combat, where positioning and weapon choice matter, and a detailed star map for planning risky jumps between worlds. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is unapologetic, often leaving you to figure things out through trial and error. It feels like being handed the keys to a rusty starship and told to save the galaxy, with no guarantees you’ll make it back.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
