Game Overview

Metroid Zelda (Hack) is a weird little NES rom that mashes up exploration and dungeon crawling in a way that shouldn't work but kinda does. You start with that familiar Metroid-style side-scrolling, except now you're poking around for keys and heart containers like a Zelda game.

The controls feel stiff at first—jumping between platforms while swiping at enemies with a sword takes some getting used to. But after a while, you start finding upgrades that change how you move, and suddenly backtracking through old areas doesn't feel like a chore.

Some of the level design is janky, like hidden paths that aren't telegraphed well, but stumbling into a new area by accident has its own charm. The music is a mix of familiar chiptunes, which fits the whole crossover vibe.

If you're into retro hacks that mess with expectations, Metroid Zelda (Hack) is worth checking out—just don't expect it to play like a polished official release.
