Mickey Mania on the Sega Genesis is one of those rare platformers that feels like flipping through an old Disney scrapbook—if that scrapbook tried to kill you every few pages. You start off in black-and-white Steamboat Willie territory, hopping over barrels and dodging cranky pelicans, and suddenly you're in full color, getting chased by a deranged mad scientist or bouncing on stretchy ghosts like they're trampolines.

The animation is ridiculously smooth for a 16-bit game—Mickey’s ears even flop around when he runs—and the music nails that classic Disney vibe. But don’t get too comfortable. Some of those later levels (looking at you, mine cart chase) will test your reflexes in ways you didn’t expect from a game starring a smiling mouse in shorts.

It’s not the hardest platformer out there, but it’s got just enough bite to keep you from breezing through. Perfect for when you want something nostalgic but not mindless.
