Play Momotarou Dentetsu (Japan) Online
Roll dice, buy railway lines, and outsmart your friends in this fast-paced board game set in Japan.
Momotarou Dentetsu came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, developed by Hudson Soft. It was part of that wave of Japanese board game-style titles that felt very different from the platformers and action games dominating the NES library at the time.
You control a train magnate, moving a token around a map of Japan with the goal of buying up railway lines and properties to become the richest player. The core loop involves rolling dice to move, purchasing any unowned station you land on, and paying rent to opponents when you stop on their turf. Random events constantly disrupt your plans; you might hit a section of damaged track that forces a detour, or land on a space that triggers a mini-game to earn quick cash. The pacing is brisk, with turns flying by, but the threat of bankruptcy from a few unlucky rolls keeps the tension high. It feels like a chaotic, charming race where a huge comeback or a sudden collapse is always just one turn away.
