Monster Maker 2 came out for the Game Boy in 1993, developed by System Sacom. It was one of those odd, experimental titles that felt right at home on the handheld, offering something different from the usual platformers and puzzle games of the era.
You play as a young monster creator, tasked with building creatures from collected parts like horns, wings, and tails. Your main goal is to train these monsters and enter them into turn based battles against other creatures. The game involves exploring areas screen by screen to find new parts, then managing your creations' stats and abilities between fights. The pacing is deliberate, with a fair amount of grinding for better components, but finally seeing your custom monster succeed in battle brings a real sense of accomplishment.
