Game Overview

Mortville Manor came out on the Amiga in 1986, developed by Lankhor and published by Pyramide Soft. It was one of those early graphic adventures that tried to do something different, moving away from pure text parsers and offering a visual, interactive mystery. It fit right into that experimental period on the platform, where developers were figuring out how to tell stories with pictures and a mouse.

You play as detective Jérôme Lange, sent to investigate a murder at a secluded mansion. The game uses a point-and-click interface for moving between pre-rendered screens, examining objects for clues, and questioning the various suspects who are all trapped there with you. A key mechanic is the real-time clock; events happen at specific times whether you are present or not, so you have to be in the right place to catch conversations or uncover new evidence. There is no traditional inventory or item-combination puzzle solving; progress relies entirely on observation and dialogue. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, and missing a timed event can leave you stuck, forcing a restart. Playing it feels like being a real detective, piecing together a timeline from fragments of conversation and overlooked details.
