Game Overview

Nangoku Shirei!! Spy vs Spy for the NES came out in 1987 from Kemco, a company that put out a lot of games in that era. It was a time when local multiplayer was just starting to become a bigger deal on consoles, and this was one of the titles that really leaned into that competitive spirit.

You control one of the two trench coat wearing spies from the Mad magazine comic, running through a multi room embassy to find parts for a getaway plane before your opponent does. The core of the game is setting traps; you can hide bombs in drawers, rig doors to explode, or lay down tripwires, all while frantically searching for the briefcase, key, and other items. The pacing is frantic and the difficulty is high, as every room could be your last if you aren't paying attention. It feels like a tense game of cat and mouse where you're both the hunter and the hunted.
