Nekojara is a Game Boy game from 0, though I've never been able to find much about who made it. It feels like one of those odd, experimental titles that quietly slipped out during the system's later years, a strange little project that doesn't fit neatly into any category.
You control a small, bouncy cat navigating a series of single-screen platforming challenges. Your main goal is simply to reach the exit in each stage, but the journey is filled with obstacles like territorial alley cats and unpredictable balls of yarn that roll across the floor. The core mechanics are built around a pounce move that sends you leaping forward, which you use to cross gaps and stun enemies, and a precise, momentum-based bounce off walls and ceilings to change direction. The pacing is deliberate, almost puzzle-like, as you figure out the timing and angles for each jump, and the difficulty comes from the tight spaces and your own imperfect landings. It feels like solving a small, silly physics problem with your paws.
