Play Oira Jajamaru! Sekai Daibouken (Japan) Online

You play as a ninja frog who flicks his tongue at enemies while hopping across weirdly charming levels—one minute you're bouncing on umbrellas, the next you're a sumo frog crushing sushi. The controls feel loose at first, but nailing those mid-air tongue combos hits just right.

Game Overview

This one's a weird little Game Boy gem from Jaleco—you play as Jajamaru, this ninja frog dude who hops around smacking enemies with his tongue. It's got that classic '90s platformer feel where everything's just slightly floaty, and the levels throw these oddball obstacles at you, like rolling sushi or bouncing on umbrellas. The Japanese version's got way more personality, with these goofy sound effects when you pick up power-ups (there's one that turns you into a sumo wrestler, which is as ridiculous as it sounds).

Honestly, the controls take some getting used to—your jumps feel a little slippery at first, but once you adjust, there's something weirdly satisfying about chaining together tongue attacks mid-air. The later levels get brutal, though. I still haven't beaten the ice world without rage-quitting at least once.

If you're into obscure retro platformers with charm to spare, this one's worth digging up.
