Oishinbo is a Japan only NES release from TOSE, based on a popular manga about food journalism. It arrived late in the console's life, a time when developers were still finding odd niches to explore on the aging hardware.

You control a reporter traveling across a map of Japan, entering restaurants to sample and critique their food. The main objective is to build your culinary knowledge and write successful articles. Signature mechanics include a timing based eating mini game where you must press buttons in rhythm to taste a dish properly, and a dialogue heavy review process where you choose the correct adjectives to describe the meal. The pacing is slow and deliberate, focused more on reading and careful selection than action. It feels like a strange, methodical simulation of a job you never knew existed.
