Play Oishinbo (Japan) [En by Snark v1.0] (~Gourmet) Online
You wander Japan reviewing restaurants, tasting dishes pixel by pixel—mess up your ramen critique and the chef might throw you out. It’s janky, obsessive, and weirdly makes you crave 8-bit sushi.

Game Overview
Oishinbo is one of those weird, charming Famicom games that never made it out of Japan—which is a shame, because it’s basically a foodie’s RPG. You play as a journalist traveling around, eating dishes, and writing reviews, which sounds simple until you realize how much the game leans into the manga’s obsession with culinary details.
The first time I played, I got stuck for way too long because I didn’t realize you actually have to taste the food properly before reviewing it. The pixel art somehow makes ramen and sushi look legitimately tempting, and there’s this weirdly satisfying rhythm to hunting down ingredients or arguing with chefs about seasoning. It’s janky in that classic NES way, but if you’ve ever wanted a game where your biggest enemy is a badly made bowl of udon, this is it.
